Let me point out some major problems with this bogus chart that independent fundamental Baptists have been using to prop up their false pre-tribulation rapture doctrine:
1. This chart shows the first 3.5 years of the "tribulation" as a time of "temporary peace." According to them, that is when the 7 seals will be opened. This is typical teaching of pre-tribulation rapture teachers, but does it line up with scripture?
Rev 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
Does that sound peaceful? What about this:
Rev 6:7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
Rev 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
Is that a time of "temporary peace"? NO
2. Nowhere does the Bible mention "bowl" judgments. The King James Bible talks about seven "vials" of judgment, not "bowls." Whoever made this chart was not reading a King James Bible, so why do KJV-only Baptists use it?
I believe that the "temporary peace" is for the ones who will belive in Jesus Christ, as they will be protected from the judgement of the seven seals.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the "temporary peace" is for the ones who will belive in Jesus Christ, as they will be protected from the judgement of the seven seals.
ReplyDeleteWhoever made that chart was using NIV/NASB/other. This is simply because in Revelation 16 these modern (per)versions replace the word "vial," used in the KJV, with "bowl."
ReplyDeleteThat chart stirred up good memories. I recognized it immediately as having come from Leon Bates' A TRIBULATION MAP, a tract I studied and treasured when a new Christian back in the early 1980s along with those of JTC (initials anyone reading your 'blog will know).
ReplyDeleteConcerning your second point, the Greek word the KJV committee translated "vials" is the equivalent of the Hebrew word they translated as "bowls" in the Old Testament, so I suspect Leon Bates chose to use that particular KJV term, which does better convey the picture of the object (a vial being associated with a skinny test tube in most modern readers' minds).
PS: I would appreciate reading an expanded study of this subject by you. I'm a pre-trib, fundie KJV Baptist who especially enjoys the work of Clarence Larkin.

The problem you describe is what happens when people build their theology on top of Left Behind.
