Refuting LDS Doctrine when Soul Winning

Mormon idol to their fake Jesus

Mormonism teaches that there is more than one God, and that men can become gods. This has been Satan’s message since the garden of Eden.

“For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:5

“I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” – Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12-14)

LDS Prophet Brigham Young taught: “How many Gods there are, I do not know. But there never was a time when there were not Gods and worlds, and when men were not passing through the same ordeals that we are passing through.”

The Bible teaches that there is only one God!

“Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” Isaiah 43:10-11

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” 1 Timothy 2:5

“And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:” Mark 12:32

Jesus Christ was God in the flesh:

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

“But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” Hebrews 1:8

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7

“I and my Father are one.” – John 10:30

“And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.” Mark 10:18

Was Jesus good? Then he was God!

Mormonism is a cult because they are following a man. First it was Joseph Smith, then it was Brigham Young, and there has been a succession of more false prophets leading them after that.

Mormons believe in another book, which contradicts the Bible. The Book of Mormon comes from a revelation Joseph Smith claimed to get from “The angel, Moroni.” The Bible condemns those who bring another gospel — even if it comes from an angel:

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8

Perhaps you could also remind them that nothing else was supposed to be added to the Word of God after the New Testament was complete:

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelations 22:18-19

One of the obstacles in reaching Mormons is that they are taught that the Bible has translation errors. This is convenient for them since the Book of Mormon is in opposition to many clear teachings in scripture. Something to point out to them is that the Old Testament prophesied the events of the New Testament, but where in the Bible was there a prophecy about events in the Book of Mormon? For example, where was it ever foretold that Christ would appear to Native Americans?

Mormons can be difficult to reach, but occasionally you will find some that are receptive. Address their false doctrine, but always keep coming back to the Bible way to Heaven. The power is in the gospel. Go through the Romans road with them, being sure to emphasize the fact that there is only one God, and that you don’t have to repent of your sins to be saved.

Here is a sermon where I cover this subject in more detail.

  1. What do you do when a Mormon knocks on your door? Shouldn't we still try to give them the gospel or am I misunderstanding Galatians 1:8 to let them be accursed??? (I live on a street called "Easy Street" which is very popular with false religions' outreach like Mormons/Pentecostals/& I get a ton of Jehovah's False Witnesses...should stop even trying to get them saved when they come to my door?)

  2. I do know 2 John 10 pretty well. And I remember listening to Pastor Anderson talk about an experience he had when he was young and how his Dad taught him a lesson about this kind of thing.

  3. Another good post in a succession of them. You asked where in the Bible Jesus mentioned coming to the Americas. Mormons would answer John 10:16, "And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd." In answer to the retort, "He was referring to the Gentiles to whom Paul was sent," they answer, "They did not hear His voice, but Paul's."

By the way, you don't delete comments on your Youtube site, do you? Didn't think so.

  4. Hi Michael! No, I don't delete comments on YouTube, but YouTube frequently hides comments that appear to be spam. This is known as "comment ghosting," and I don't have any control over it.

  5. Thanks for the clarification. As I said, didn't think so. Probably some homo in a cubicle at Youtube, giggling as he deletes comments.

  6. Don't see a lot of LDS in Australia but i have met a few missionaries. They are all very polite young men. But their beliefs are hilarious. I'm surprised *anyone* stays in that church once they learn about the undergarment and the kolob thing :s

  7. If you think LDS is an American only religion, you'd be wrong. Although Mormonism is such an American thing - Zion being Missouri and all that - they do try overseas as well. I encountered their church in a Dutch city in a rural area (Leeuwarden), they've infiltrated into South Africa, I've known (black!) Mormons from Italy... and that LDS name confuses people too. See, everyone knows the 2nd M in Mormonism is silent :-) but "Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints" makes them sound Christian. So people check them out, thinking they're Christians... and get sucked in.

And yes @ Michael, probably some homo giggling and deleting comments. Years ago I used a media website to do debates with rabid atheists (which I now know was a waste of time); they would ask questions, I would post answers - within minutes the answers were deleted, making it look like I was chicken or stupid. On the same news site, when they had articles even vaguely containing the word "God", within a nanosecond there would be 20 comments from rabid atheists mocking God, Jesus and believers. Are they that sharp, or are they paid God-hating admins/trolls...
