So "it" is clearly not Jacob's trouble, but a comparison between two time periods. Maybe the emphasis should be on other similarities ?
So the "it" day and Jacob's trouble are not the same day, but maybe the point of the comparison wasn't about how long it would last, maybe the focus was on the other similarities between the two events?
