Born that Way: A Doctrine of Convenience

As recently as 10 to 20 years ago, independent fundamental Baptists still preached hard against the Sodomites. I remember when I was a teenager, hearing pastor Steve Nichols thundering from the pulpit of Regency Baptist Church that they are recruiters, not reproducers.

I’ve also heard recordings of old-time preachers teaching the doctrine of rejecting God and becoming a reprobate. Some only loosely associated homosexuality with being a reprobate, but most of them at least understood what a reprobate was, and they knew that it is too late for some people.

Listen to this clip from Brother Hyles about reprobates:

Instead of preachers admitting they are compromising, they often pretend to agree with something they really don’t believe. Bob Gray knows he doesn’t personally believe that eunuch garbage, but for some reason, he is going along with it. I can’t figure out who he is trying to please by teaming up with Johnny Nixon, but perhaps someone out there can enlighten me.

Watch this video by Brother Jeff Utzler to hear what Bob Gray Sr. said about homosexuality in his own book:

An “old grizzled veteran” like Bob Gray Sr., who has been in the ministry for years, knows full well what a reprobate is. I realize he doesn’t agree with me jot and tittle, but it is dishonest of him to pretend he doesn’t know what I mean when I explain my position. He has created a strawman argument to change the subject and try to make me look like a heretic. He says I must not believe Christ died for everyone, and he’ll accuse me of being a Calvinist.

Bob Gray thinks he can skirt the real issue because he is counting on the ignorance of his followers who have sat under shallow, one-issue preaching for too long. The people defending him on his Facebook page don’t even seem to know what he believes about salvation since they are saying one has to repent of sins to be saved.

This eunuch thing is a doctrine of convenience. It is a way for compromisers to be more politically correct in their attitude toward Sodomites. Born that Way Ministries is an attempt to meet the Sodomites halfway. No doubt, some Sodomites will be willing to take a vow of celibacy in order to work in the children’s ministry of some church. Maybe when people find out the truth about Born that Way Ministries’ sinister agenda, they will jump ship, and churches like Faithful Word Baptist Church will become a refuge for families with young children.

False doctrine is often developed as a way to reconcile the teachings of the Bible with the world’s philosophies. I’m not that surprised that someone is teaching a false doctrine about eunuchs, but I am surprised it is being accepted by fundamental Baptists.

What’s next, Bob Gray? Theistic evolution? The gap theory? Lordship salvation? Oh, that’s right. It’s only okay to embrace a false doctrine if Brother Hyles didn’t specifically address it. The Sodomite issue wasn’t as much of a problem in Brother Hyles' day, but if he were alive today, he might need to preach on the subject more often.

Stay in your time warp, I guess. Be sure to warn people about the movie houses and the hippie movement. Meanwhile, I will continue to keep my congregation up to date on the important spiritual battles of today.

“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:2

Here is a sermon to go with this article.

Hi Pastor Anderson, Interesting article. I have watched many of your sermons and I really enjoyed your book of Revelation series, Biblical Greek and your documentaries. I especially enjoyed After the Tribulation which has totally convinced me of the rapture taking place after the tribulation. Although I may not agree on every point you make, I do on most points, especially on Salvation being through faith in Chrost alone. I can see works based salvation creeping into the church theae days and people are really being blonded by the false teaching. I appreciate you work in the minstry & your boldness in speaking the truth. Blessings from Australia.
